The main appeal for ePortfolios is the multifaceted use of such a product. For one, this type of project allows the creator to take full ownership of the subject matter. I really appreciate how, in Lamar’s EDLD program, students are encouraged to begin adding content beyond our classwork in order to incorporate other learning experiences. Already, this has pushed me to view learning through a different lens, as I am prompted to look beyond dues dates and graduation. Compiling these various learning experiences and resources all in one place allows an outside audience to gain access to my learning journey. Furthermore, my work now has the potential to gain a larger audience, rather than just a professor and a few classmates. I have definitely noticed that I approach each assignment, writing and post differently, knowing that there will be more eyes on what I produce.
I am excited to see how my ePortfolio develops over time. I believe that the longevity of this type of project is one of its strongest aspects. Digital portfolios not only document learning but they also display growth. With more exposure to digital learning and leading resources, I am sure that my stances, opinions, and convictions will progress and be shaped into evolved, if not brand new, ideas.
In today's technological landscape, it is important to have a positive digital, online presence. In my profession of education, I have become more aware of the value of being connected, as both a consumer and as a producer, to the vast networks of educational organizations and to like-minded individuals. This is what excites me the most about creating and maintaining an ePortfolio - that I will have a platform to continue learning from and influencing others, as we all strive to improve the educational systems to which teachers have dedicated themselves.
